A Message from the Principal

Message from Mr. Stapleton
Mr. Stapleton

Rye Cove Intermediate is a small rural school in the Rye Cove Community of Scott County.  We serve 164 students in 5th through 7th grade.  RCI strives to provide a quality education to all of our students as well as promoting citizenship and community.  Our students are proud of their heritage and their school.  The RCI grounds were home to the Rye Cove School, destroyed on May 2, 1929 by the deadliest tornado in Virginia History.  Housed on our grounds are the memorial plaque commemorating the students and teacher who were victims of the tornado, and the Red Cross Building, the cabin used after the disaster by the Red Cross to distribute aid to the community.

We have high academic standards at RCI and our students and teachers work diligently to meet them.  We focus on the core subjects of English, Math, Science and History.  Our participation in STEM programs help our student develop an interest in Math and Science.  Our faculty collaborate for cross-curriculum lessons and incorporate a high number of hands-on activities into their lessons many of which have practical application in the workplace.  We strive to provide our students with a well-rounded education that includes the arts, music, band and physical education.

RCI is a welcoming environment to parents and community members and we encourage community involvement in the lives of our students.  It is our goal to ensure that each student is able to achieve their maximum potential while at our school, and to provide them with the tools necessary to continue a successful educational career.
